About Communication & the Black Diaspora

ABOUT
Our Mission:
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of African and African-American communication and culture. This website serves as an extension of the work completed in the Communication in the Black Diaspora course, a popular undergraduate general education course offered through the School of Global Journalism and Communication at Morgan State University
Our Purpose:
This platform is designed to be a valuable resource for both students and educators. For students, it offers a rich repository of learning tools and materials that provide historical and contemporary knowledge about the African Diaspora. For educators, it serves as a teaching resource, offering access to readings, lecture notes, lesson plans, and assessment tools.
Why Study the African Diaspora?
Studying the African Diaspora supports the academy’s mission of challenging and advancing social, scientific, and humanistic modes of inquiry. Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa, has long been one of the most mineral-rich continents in the world and is now home to some of the fastest-growing economies. The increased prevalence of stabilizing African governments, burgeoning African economies, and blossoming information technologies throughout sub-Saharan Africa has led to a rapidly expanding African middle class. This has significant ramifications for the global economy and our understanding of African culture globally.
Our Commitment:
We are committed to continually evolving this website to provide the most up-to-date and relevant information about the African Diaspora. Whether you are a student eager to learn or an educator looking for comprehensive teaching materials, Communications & the Black Diaspora is here to support your journey.
Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to explore our resources and join us in celebrating and understanding the rich tapestry of African and African-American communication and culture.
